Closed-shell fullerene and fulleroid carbon cylinders

Abstract

Electronic closed shells are predicted for series of cylindrical carbon clusters incorporating antipodal pairs of heptagonal, octagonal or nonagonal rings of atoms. Although not technically fullerenes, these clusters can all be accommodated by extensions of the known leapfrog and cylinder rules for fullerene closed shells.
