Monolayer adsorption on heterogeneous solid surfaces: a density functional approach
Abstract
A density functional type theory for strictly two-dimensional films adsorbed on geometrically flat, but energetically heterogeneous surfaces is presented. Model calculations are carried out for a monolayer adsorbed film of hard spheres. The obtained results indicate that, in contrast to previous assumptions, the role of the topography may be even more important than the role of global energetic surface heterogeneity.
