Oxygen evolution on BaSn1 –xSbxO3(0 < x≤ 0.15) perovskite electrodes

Abstract

Oxygen evolution on the perovskite electrodes BaSn1–xSbxO3(0 < x⩽ 0.15) and BaSn0.9Sb0.1O3 modified by the introduction of small amounts of platinum, has been studied in aqueous alkaline solutions. The influence of the antimony content and of the presence of traces of platinum on the electrochemical behaviour, has been studied. Analysis of Tafel lines in the oxygen evolution potential region has been performed.

For all the samples, no appreciable electrocatalytic activity towards oxygen evolution was observed. This behaviour was explained in terms of the porous nature of the electrodes. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies complemented the electrochemical results.
