Faraday communications. Measurement of Coulombic forces between mica surfaces in N2
Abstract
Forces between mica surfaces in N2 have been measured. The observed forces appear to be electrostatic in nature, indicating that when cleaved in air the mica retains a residual charge. An inverse square of the distance dependence is observed, consistent with Coulomb's law (point charges), for the flat-plate geometry.
