Synthesis and crystal structure of the organometallic ruthenium(IV) derivative [Ru(C5Me5)Cl2(SC4H8)2]ClO4
Abstract
Oxidation of [{Ru(C5Me5)Cl2}n] by ferrocenium or in an electrochemical cell was attempted in the presence of various ligands such as phosphines, pyridine and tetrahydrothiopene (SC4H8). Only in the latter case was the oxidation possible and a ruthenium(IV) cationic derivative isolated: [Ru(C5Me5)Cl2(SC4H8)2]X (X = ClO4 or PF6). The crystal structure of the ClO4– salt has been determined.
