Synthesis, characterization and crystal structure of the heterotrimetallic complexes [NEt4][(Ph3P)2AgS2MoS2Cu(CN)](linear) and [NEt4][(Ph3P)2AgS3MoOCu(CN)](butterfly)

Abstract

Two novel heterometallic complexes with three different metals, the linear [NEt4][(Ph3P)2AgS2MoS2Cu(CN)]1 and the butterfly-type [NEt4][(Ph3P)2AgS3MoOCu(CN)]2, have been obtained by reaction of [NEt4]2[MoS4Cu(CN)] and [NEt4]2[OMoS3Cu(CN)] with [Ag(PPh3)2]NO3, respectively. Complex 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with a= 10.363(4), b= 35.74(1), c= 13.136(9)Å, β= 100.89(5)°, Z= 4; R= 0.069 for 2959 observed reflections with I > 3σ(I) and 280 variables. Complex 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n with a= 20.013(6), b= 10.529(3), c= 22.721(6)Å, β= 101.31(2)°, Z= 4; R= 0.064 for 3742 observed reflections with I > 3σ(I) and 296 variables. In each synthetic procedure the fragment of the anion of the starting material, S2MoS2Cu(CN) or OMoS3Cu(CN), remains almost unchanged in the product except for slight changes in bond lengths and angles. The chirality of the butterfly-type compound containing three different metals is discussed.
