The structure of spiroveitchionolide, an unusual lanostane-type triterpene lactone from Abies veitchii

Abstract

The structure of spiroveitchionolide, a novel triterpene lactone having an unusual skeletal system, isolated from Abies veitchii, is established as (3R, 7S, 9R, 23R)-7-hydroxy-3-methoxy-8-oxo-7(8→9)abeo-lanost-24-eno-26,23-lactone on the basis of chemical, spectral and single crystal X-ray crystallographic evidence.
