Metal promoted cleavage of diethylenetriamine to give β-alanine

Abstract

An unusual, facile cleavage of C–N bonds of diethylenetriamine (H2NCH2CH2NHCH2CH2NH2= dien) promoted by the reaction with the rhenium(V) nitrido complex [ReNCl2(PPh3)2] to yield β-alanine (H2NCH2CH2CO2H =β-ala) is reported.
