New zirconium phosphido complexes and their reactions with alkenes

Abstract

The reaction of PH3 with the bispentamethylcyclopentadienyl zirconium dinitrogen complex [{Zr(C5Me5)2(N2)}2(µ-N2)]1 produces the orange and the yellow phosphido complexes [{Zr(C5Me5)2(PH2)(H)}2(µ-N2)]2 and [{Zr(C5Me5)2(PH2)(H)}2]3; the reaction of these complexes with alkenes and PH3 leads to the selective formation of primary alkyl phosphines, under the mildest conditions of temperature and pressure reported to date.
