High-performance ion chromatographic analysis of stainless steels
Abstract
The isolation and detection of components of stainless steels by high-performance ion chromatography with post-column reaction methods is described. The eluted metal ions are detected with an ultraviolet/visible spectrophotometric detector after undergoing post-column complexation with 4-(2-pyridylazo)resorcinol and Arsenazo III. The requirements for the sample preparation and the characterization of the post-column reaction for the sensitive detection of metal ions after ion chromatographic separation are discussed. The results are in good agreement with the certified values for Standard Reference Material C 1151, C 1152, C 1153 and C 1154 samples from the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
