Kinetic aspects of chemical speciation

Abstract

Reactivities of aqua-metal ions, and some of their hydroxo and polynuclear derivatives, with respect to complex formation are reviewed, and effects of coordinated ligands and of the natures of incoming ligands are considered. General principles are outlined with, where possible, illustrative examples involving metals of analytical, bioinorganic, geochemical, pharmacological or toxicological importance.
