γ-Ray induced fluoropolymeric encapsulation of TiO2 particles: an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic investigation

Abstract

Rutile TiO2 pigment particles suspended in a solution of monomers (methacrylic acid plus a fluorinated ethylene) can be encapsulated by γ-ray-induced polymerisation. Chemical character and relative thickness of these polymeric coatings has been determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Preferential polymerisation is shown to occur at the TiO2/solution interface.
