Preparation of a bis(cyclopentadienyl)acetylene-framed heterobimetallic complex and its reaction with dicobalt octacarbonyl

Abstract

The bis(cyclopentadienyl)acetylene-framed heterobimetallic complex [(OC)3Mn{(η5-C5H4)C[triple bond, length half m-dash]C(η5-C5H4)}Fe(CO)2(CH2Ph)] has been prepared by two consecutive palladium-catalysed coupling reactions from the corresponding iodocyclopentadienyl monometallic complexes [Mn(η5-C5H4I)(CO)3] and [Fe(η5-C5H4I)(CO)2(CH2Ph)]. Reaction of the heterobimetallic compound with [Co2(CO)8] affords quantitatively the dicobalt adduct [(OC)3Mn{(η5-C5H4)[graphic omitted](η5-C5H4)}Fe(CO)2(CH2Ph)]. The X-ray structure of this complex shows a closer proximity between the two metal centres than some previously reported analogues.
