Preparation of a bis(cyclopentadienyl)acetylene-framed heterobimetallic complex and its reaction with dicobalt octacarbonyl

Abstract

The bis(cyclopentadienyl)acetylene-framed heterobimetallic complex [(OC)₃Mn{(η⁵-C₅H₄)CC(η⁵-C₅H₄)}Fe(CO)₂(CH₂Ph)] has been prepared by two consecutive palladium-catalysed coupling reactions from the corresponding iodocyclopentadienyl monometallic complexes [Mn(η⁵-C₅H₄I)(CO)₃] and [Fe(η⁵-C₅H₄I)(CO)₂(CH₂Ph)]. Reaction of the heterobimetallic compound with [Co₂(CO)₈] affords quantitatively the dicobalt adduct [(OC)₃Mn{(η⁵-C₅H₄)[graphic omitted](η⁵-C₅H₄)}Fe(CO)₂(CH₂Ph)]. The X-ray structure of this complex shows a closer proximity between the two metal centres than some previously reported analogues.
