Stepwise addition of [Re2(µ-H)2(CO)8] to a labile Pt(0) complex. X-Ray crystal structures of the bow-tie clusters [Re4Pt(µ-H)6 –n(CO)16]n(n= 0,1)

Abstract

The stepwise reaction of the ethylene-like molecule [Re2(µ-H)2(CO)8] with [Pt(cod)2](cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene) affords the triangular cluster [Re2Pt(µ-H)2(CO)8(COd)] and then, under H2, the pentanuclear species [Re4Pt(µ-H)6(CO)16], with a bow-tie geometry of the metal cluster, which in basic media deprotonates reversibly to [Re4Pt(µ-H)5(CO)16].
