Abstract

A novel green pigment from the fungus Hypoxylon fragiforme(Pers.: Fries) Kickx has been identified as 1,3,9,11-tetrahydroxy-6-hydroxymethyldibenzo[b,h]xanthen-8-one and named hypoxyxylerone; the X-ray crystal structure of a tetraacetate derivative has been determined.
