Synthesis, and spectral and X-ray structural studies of a novel delocalised diphosphazene (CF3)2P[double bond, length half m-dash]N[double bond, length half m-dash]PPh3 and the iron carbonyl complexes [Fe(CO)4{(CF3)2P[double bond, length half m-dash]N[double bond, length half m-dash]PPh3}] and [Fe(CO)3{(CF3)2P[double bond, length half m-dash]N[double bond, length half m-dash]PPh3}2]

Abstract

The diphosphazene (CF3)2P[double bond, length half m-dash]N[double bond, length half m-dash]PPh3 L prepared from the reaction of (CF3)2PN3 with PPh3 has been shown from a single-crystal X-ray structural study to possess an unusual and novel delocalised P[double bond, length half m-dash]N[double bond, length half m-dash]P moiety containing PIV and PV atoms; the P[double bond, length half m-dash]N[double bond, length half m-dash]P structure is retained upon coordination to Fe in the complexes [Fe(CO)4{(CF3)2P[double bond, length half m-dash]N[double bond, length half m-dash]PPh3}]1 and [Fe(CO)3{(CF3)2P[double bond, length half m-dash]N[double bond, length half m-dash]PPh3}2]2.
