Molecular mercaptan (thiol) complexes: the synthesis of the tert-butanethiol complexes [Ru(η5-C5H5)(PPh3)(ButNC)(ButSH)]PF6 and [Ru(η5-C5H5)(dppm)(ButSH)]PF6and the X-ray single crystal structure of [Ru(η5-C5H5)(dppm)(ButSH)]PF6[dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane]

Abstract

The reaction of the chlorides [Ru(η5-C5H5)(PPh3)(ButNC)(Cl)] and [Ru(η5-C5H5)(dppm)(Cl)] with ButSH in methanol containing NH4PF6 leads to the isolation of the complexes [Ru(η5-C5H5)(PPh3)(ButNC)(ButSH)]PF62 and [Ru(η5-C5H5)(dppm)(ButSH)]PF64 which both contain the intact thiol as a ligand.
