Spectrofluorimetric determination of chromium with 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulphonic acid

Abstract

A simple spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of CrVI, based on the oxidation of 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulphonic acid with potassium dichromate in 6.3 mol dm–3 H2SO4, is described. The fluorescent species has excitation and emission maxima at 360 and 450 nm, respectively. The fluorescence intensity of the system is linear over the concentration range 5.6 × 10–6–1.5 × 10–5 mol dm–3 CrVI. The method was applied to the determination of CrVI in industrial wastewater samples.
