Chemistry of the (Z)-cyclo-oct-4-enyl radical including the preparation of 18O2-labelled (Z)-cyclo-oct-4-enyl hydroperoxide

Abstract

Photolysis of the O-acyl thiohydroxamate (2), precursor to the (Z)-cyclo-oct-4-enyl radical, in the presence of ¹⁸O₂ and a tertiary thiol provides the labelled hydroperoxide (8). The parent (Z)-cyclo-oct-4-enyl radical is shown to undergo transannular cyclization only under relatively forcing conditions.
