Solvent effects on the iodide–peroxodisulphate reaction: a quantitative approach

Abstract

The reaction between iodide and peroxidisulphate ions has been studied in several water–organic solvent mixtures at different organic solvent concentrations. The results have been analysed by means of different approaches, namely electrostatic theory, the initial state–transition state analysis, the decomposition of the free energy of activation into the enthalpic and the entropic terms and, finally, correlation between reactivity and selected solvent parameters. Multiple-regression analysis based on current models has been utilized to account for the experimental results.
