Carbon cylinders: a class of closed-shell clusters

Abstract

Simple Hückel arguments predict a closed electronic shell for one isomer of each D5h or D5d pseudospherical carbon cluster Cn when n= 70 + 30m, and a corresponding D6h or D6d closed-shell cluster with the same HOMO–LUMO gap for n= 84 + 36m(where m is a non-negative integer).
