Iodine-127 nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of transition-metal periodate complexes

Abstract

127 I N.m.r. spectra have been recorded in solution for [M{IO5(OH)}2]5–(M = Cu, Ag, or Au), [MO2{IO5(OH)}2]6–(M = Ru or Os), [Co4I3O24H12]3–, and in addition for H5IO6, NaIO4, and [I(OH)6]+. The presence of a very broad resonance at ca. 2 800–3 100 p.p.m. is suggested to be characteristic of the presence of an orthoperiodate group [H5nIO6]n. The syntheses and properties of Na6[OsO2L2nH2O [L = IO5(OH) or TeO4(OH)2] are reported.
