Spectroscopic studies on molecular vanadium pentafluoride isolated in inert gas matrices

Abstract

Matrix-isolation studies have been carried out on vanadium pentafluoride. In a nitrogen matrix prominent i.r. bands at 806 and 769 cm–1 are assigned to V–F stretching modes of monomeric VF5(D3h). Corresponding u.v.–visible spectra were obtained and assigned on the basis of trigonal bipyramidal geometry.
