Synthesis of tetrafluoro(η5-pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)tantalum(V) and X-ray crystal structure of its AsF3 solvate, [{Ta(η5-C5Me5)F4}2]·2AsF3

Abstract

The compound [Ta(η5-C5Me5)Cl4](1) reacts with excess of AsF3 to form the crystalline complex [{Ta(η5-C5Me5)F4}2]·2AsF3(2) which has been investigated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The AsF3 can be removed in vacuo to give [Ta(η5-C5Me5)F4](3). Compound (3) is soluble in common organic solvents, e.g. diethyl ether, toluene, or acetonitrile.
