Preparation and properties of [M{S2N3(SO2NH2)}(PR3)2] and [Pt{SO2(NH)2}(PR3)2] from reactions in liquid ammonia

Abstract

Reaction of SO2(NH2)2 or SO2Cl2 in liquid ammonia with [PtCl2(PR3)2] gives [Pt{SO2(NH)2}(PR3)2](PR3= PMe2Ph, PMePh2, PPh3, PEt3, or ½Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2) in good yield (ca. 70% isolated). Reaction of SOCl2 in liquid ammonia with [TiCl2(C5H5)2] or [PtCl2(PR3)2] yields [Ti(NSO)2(C5H5)2] and [Pt(NSO)2(PR3)2] respectively in ca. 60% yield. The compound S4N4O2 in liquid ammonia reacts with [MCl2(PR3)2] to produce [M{S2N3(SO2NH2)}(PR3)2](M = Pt, PR3= PMe2Ph, PMePh2, PEt3, PPrn3, or PBun3; M = Pd, PR3=½Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2) in fair yield (ca. 40%). The reactivity of Na2SO4, H2NSO3H, SO3·NMe3, S3N2(NSO2CF3), NaHNSO2C6H4Me, (NSOR)3, and H2NSO2Ph in liquid ammonia has also been investigated. The new compounds were characterised by 31P and 1H n.m.r., i.r., mass spectroscopy, and microanalyses.
