Isolation and X-ray structure determination of [Os4(CO)12(C9H6)], an indyne‘butterfly’ cluster

Abstract

The cluster [Os4(CO)12(C9H6)](1) has been isolated from the reaction of [Os3(CO)12] with indene in nonane under reflux; X-ray analysis has shown that (1) has a ‘butterfly’ metal framework while the indyne group interacts with the metal atoms via two σ-bonds and two π-bonds.
