Thermolysis or photolysis of 4,5-dihydroxy-2,2-dimethylpentyl(pyridine)cobaloxime (1a) at either pH 3 or 9 affords 4,4-dimethylpentanal (15–45%) in a model system for B12-dependent diol dehydrase.
