Synthesis and thermal ring-cleavage fragmentation of 2-azido-1-methylindole and 2-azidobenzo[b]furan

Abstract

Mild thermal fragmentation of 2-azido-1-methylindole and 2-azidobenzo[b]furan leads to an ortho-quinoidal enimine or enone intermediate respectively through a ring-cleavage reaction of the corresponding nitrene.
