Dissociative recombination and excitation of N +2

Abstract

Merged-beam studies are reported which show that the cross-section for the recombination of N+2(ν= 0) with electrons is ca. a factor of five smaller than previously accepted. The initial state of the ions is identified by studying the threshold for the electron-impact excitation of the ion. The reason for the difference between these and previous results is ascribed to the presence of vibrationally excited species in those experiments.
