Modification and cleavage of DNA by ptaquiloside. A new potent carcinogen isolated from bracken fern

Abstract

The dienone (2), the active species chemically derived from bracken carcinogen ptaquiloside (1), has been shown to bind to purine bases of salmon sperm DNA covalently and to cleave double strand supercoiled pBR 322 DNA.
