End-to-end rotation of co-ordinated dinitrogen in (η5-C5Me5)Re(CO)2(N2)

Abstract

The rate of linkage isomerization of (η5-C5Me5)Re(CO)2(15N[triple bond, length as m-dash]14N) to give (η5-C5Me5)Re(CO)2(14N[triple bond, length as m-dash]15N) has been measured from 15N NMR intensities, yielding a ΔG value of 90 kJ mol–1 for the end-to-end rotation process; this is confirmed to be intramolecular and non-dissociative by a cross-over experiment using (η5-C5H5)Re(CO)2(14N[triple bond, length as m-dash]14N) and (η5-C5Me5)Re(CO)2(15N[triple bond, length as m-dash]14N).
