Fourier transform infrared spectrometric determination of trace amounts of polydimethylsiloxane in extracts of plastics additives
Abstract
Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometry has been used to determine trace amounts of polydimethylsiloxane in a plastics additive. The efficiency of the proposed extraction method and the utility of the developed FT-IR method were used to determine siloxanes at the µg g–1 level in plastics additives. Various evaluation possibilities of the recorded spectra were compared both in the presence and absence of interfering absorption bands arising from simultaneously extracted components. The method was applied successfully to the determination of siloxanes in a number of other additives.
