Thermodynamic parameters for the transfer of electrolytes and ions from water to benzonitrile

Abstract

Single-ion enthalpies for the transfer of 17 cations and four anions from water to benzonitrile at 298.15 K are reported. Corresponding single-ion values for the entropy of transfer, ΔS°t, from water to benzonitrile were obtained from the single-ion enthalpy and free-energy data. The results obtained for the alkali-metal and silver cations are compared with the ΔS°t values calculated for these cations using the linear relationship shown by Danil de Namor between the single-ion solvation entropy of alkali metals and silver cations with the entropy of complexation of these cations and cryptand 222 in non-aqueous solvents.
