Single-ion enthalpies for transfer between dipolar aprotic solvents derived from enthalpies of solution of potassium and alkaline-earth(II) metal cryptates in these solvents

Abstract

Enthalpies of solution of metal(I) and metal(II) cryptate salts in dipolar aprotic solvents have been determined calorimetrically at 298 K, and the enthalpies of transfer between dipolar aprotic solvents reported. Single-ion ΔHot values for the anions calculated by the cryptate convention are in good agreement with values based on the Ph4As–Ph4B convention. In transfers from propylene carbonate to acetonitrile ΔHot([M+222])≈ 0 for M2+= Mg2+, Ca2+, Sr2+ and Ba2+.
