Preparation and reactions of [Fe(Ph2PCH2PPh2-P)(CO)(COMe)(η5-C5H5)] and its derivatives

Abstract

Treatment of [Fe(CO)2Me(η5-C5H5)] with Ph2PCH2PPh2(dppm) gave the yellow complex [Fe(dppm-P)(CO)(COMe)(η5-C5H5)](1) which reacted with HBF4·Et2O, via the intermediate [[graphic omitted]Ph2}(CO)(η5-C5H5)][BF4](2), to give [[graphic omitted]Ph2}(CO)(η5-C5H5)][BF4](3). This stable orange salt was reduced with sodium tetrahydroborate to give [[graphic omitted]Ph2}(CO)(η5-C5H5)][BF4](4) and deprotonated with LiMe to give the neutral complex [[graphic omitted]Ph2}(CO)(η5-C5H5)](5). Hydrogen-1 and 31P-{1H} n.m.r., and i.r. data are presented and discussed.
