X-Ray structures of [Cu(cyclam)(H2O)2]F2·4H2O (cyclam = 1,4,8,11-tetra-azacyclotetradecane) and [Cu(en)2(H2O)2]F2·4H2O (en = ethylenediamine) reveal [F(H2O)4] with strong hydrogen bonds

Abstract

The much-discussed hydrated fluoride ion [F(H2O)4] has turned up in two copper complexes whose structures shows this ion to have four short hydrogen bonds with r(O ⋯ F)= 2.65 Å(av.).
