Six non-equivalent nitrogen atoms in octahedral mer-[Fe(fbpy)3]2+(fbpy = 4-fluoro-2,2′-bipyridine)

Abstract

The 15N n.m.r. spectra of fbpy (4-fluoro-2,2′-bipyridine), [Fe(bpy)3]2+, cis-[Co(bpy)2(H2O)2]3+, and a 3 : 1 mixture of mer- and fac-[Fe(fbpy)3]2+, are reported; in the case of mer-[Fe(fbpy)3]2+, the lack of symmetry makes all six nitrogen atoms non-equivalent and this non-equivalence is confirmed by 15N n.m.r. spectroscopy.
