Glycerolato-1O,2O complexes of platinum(II): solid and solution state structures of [(R*,R*),(R*)]-(±)-[PtOCH2CH(O))CH2OH{1,2-C6H4(PMePh)2}]·MeOH

Abstract

Reaction of (R*,R*)-(±)-[Pt(OMe)2{1,2-C6H4(PMePh)2)] in benzene–methanol with glycerol produces an equilibrium mixture of glycerolato-1O,2O diastereoisomers, epimeric at 2O, that exist in [2H2]dichloromethane predominantly as internally hydrogen-bonded monomers; in a typical second-order asymmetric transformation pure [(R*,R*), (R*)]-(±)-[[graphic ommitted]CH2OH {1,2-C6H4(PMePh)2}]·2MeOH crystallizes from the solution as an externally hydrogen-bonded centrosymmetric dimer of asymmetric monomers of opposite helicity.
