The synthesis and the X-ray crystal structure of the new encapsulated complex [{(4-amino-2-azabutyl)-8-nitro-3,6,10,13,16,19-hexa-azabicyclo[6,6,6]icosane}cobalt(III) iodide, {[Co(NO2asen)]I4·3H2O}, (3), bearing a functionalised five atom pendant arm, are reported.
