Effective collision cross-sections for the thermal conductivity of a polyatomic–monatomic binary gas mixture

Abstract

Formal expressions are given for eight effective cross-sections determining the thermal conductivity and its field effect for the unlike interaction between a linear molecule A and a noble-gas atom B. The effective cross-sections are expressed in terms of Arthurs–Dalgarno S-matrix elements. The phases associated with these cross-sections when Arthurs–Dalgarno S-matrix elements are employed are discussed in the appendix. Infinite-order sudden approximation calculations of these cross-sections for a specific anisotropic N2–He potential-energy surface are also presented and comparison is made with experimentally determined values at 85 K.
