Optical and spectromagnetical properties of phosphate glasses containing ruthenium and titanium ions
Abstract
Electron spin resonance and ultraviolet and visible absorption techniques have been used to study the optical and structural properties of RuIII and TiIII in TiO–2 and RuO2-based phosphate glasses as a way of investigating the role of transition-metal oxides on the electronic properties of these glasses. From the spectroscopic and thermodynamic analysis of the results it could be inferred that strong metal–metal interactions predominate in TiO2-containing glasses, while metal–matrix interactions play the major role in RuO2-containing glasses, demonstrating that the distribution of the transition-metal ions inside the matrix is essentially determined by the structure of the matrix.
