Complexes of cobalt(II) and nickel(II) with 3- and 4-acetylpyridine

Abstract

Fifteen complexes of cobalt(II) and nickel(II) with 3- and 4-acetylpyridine, 10 of the general formula [MX2Ln](M = Co or Ni; X = Cl, Br, I, or NCS; L = 3-acetylpyridine; n= 2 or 4), and five of the general formula [CoX2L2](X = Cl, Br, I, or NCS; L = 4-acetylpyridine), have been prepared, 13 of them for the first time. From the results of chemical analysis, magnetic susceptibility measurements, electronic and i.r. spectra, several structural types are postulated: pseudo-tetrahedral, monomeric; pseudo-octahedral, monomeric; and pseudo-octahedral, polymeric.
