Rational synthesis of metalla–sulphur–nitrogen complexes: use of [Me2SnS2N2]2 in the preparation of complexes of the type [M(S2N2H)(PR3)2]X(M = Pt or Pd). X-Ray structures of [Pt(S2N2H)(PEt3)2][Me2SnCl3],[Pt(S2N2H)(PBun3)2]2[PF6]Cl, and [{Co(S2N2H)2}2{Ph2P(O)CH2CH2P(O)Ph2}]

Abstract

Reaction of (Me2SnS2N2)2 with cis-[MCl2(PR3)2](M = Pt, PR3= PMe3, PEt3, PPrn3, PBun3,PMe2Ph, PMePh2, PPh3, or ½Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2; M = Pd, PR3=½ Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2) in dichloromethane yields [M(S2N2H)(PR3)2][Me2SnCl3]. If the reaction is carried out in the presence of [NH4][PF6] then PF6 salts are obtained. The complexes have been characterised by microanalysis, i.r., 31P and 1H n.m.r., and, in the case of [Pt(S2N2H)(PEt3)2][Me2SnCl3] and [Pt(S2N2H)-(PBun3)2]2[PF6]Cl, by X-ray crystallography. The reaction of [CoCl2{Ph2P(O)CH2CH2P(O)Ph2}] with (Me2SnS2N2)2 gave [(Co)S2N2H)2}2(Ph2P(O)CH2CH2P(O)Ph2}], whose structure was established by X-ray crystallography.
