Synthesis of o-nitrophenylplatinum(IV) complexes; crystal and molecular structure of dichlorobis(2=nitrophenyl=CO)platinum(IV)

Abstract

The reactions between [Pt{2-C6H4N(O)O}2] and halogens or MeI give complexes [Pt{2-C6H4N(O)-O}2X2][X = Cl (1), Br, or I] or [Pt{2-C6H4N(O)O}2Me(I)], respectively. Complex (1) reacts with bidentate ligands L–L giving [Pt(2-C6H4NO2)2Cl2(L–L)](L–L = 1.10-phenanthroline or 2,2′-bipyridyl). The crystal structure of (1) shows octahedral co-ordination with the halogen atoms mutually trans and the chelating o-nitrophenyl ligands mutually cis.
