Synthesis and properties of heterotrimetallic complexes containing M–Pt–Hg (M = Mo, W, Fe, Mn, or Co) arrays

Abstract

Heterotrimetallic complexes cis-[m–Pt(PPh3)2–Hg(C6Cl5)][m = Mo(CO)3(η-C5H5), W(CO)3(η-C5H5), Fe(CO)2(η-C5H5), Mn(CO)5, or Co(CO)4] have been prepared by the reaction of trans-[(C6Cl5) Hg–PtCl( PPh3)2] with the appropriate carbonylmetalate anions. The scope of this reaction is discussed. All the compounds have been characterised by 31P n.m.r. spectroscopy. Linear correlations are obtained for plots of the coupling constant ratios 1J(PaPt)/2J( PaHg) or 2J(PaHg)/2J(PbHg) against either the nucleophilicity or the oxidation potential of the carbonylmetalate anions.
