Hydrogen photoproduction by visible light irradiation of an organorhenium catalyst incorporated into aqueous suspensions of hectorite

Abstract

When incorporated into aqueous suspension of hectorite clay mineral in the presence of triethanolamine, [Re(bpy)(py)(CO)3](bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine; py = pyridine) is an efficient catalyst for the visible light (λ≥ 395 nm) photoproduction of hydrogen.
