The rates of capture of the 1-(4-methylthiophenyl)-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl carbocation by alkylamines in a desolvation-limited reaction decrease with increasing amine pKa, and are up to 200 times slower than diffusion-limited carbocation capture by azide.
