The mixed-valence CuI/CuII complex [Cu2I4][Cu(LH)2](1)(LH = 1,1-di-2-pyridylethanol) reacts with dioxygen to give the CuII complex [Cu2I2L2](2); both (1) and (2) have been characterized by X-ray structure determination.
