Cycloaddition reaction of cycloheptatrienethione with cyclopentadiene

Abstract

Cycloheptatrienethione, which is iso-π-electronic with tropone, reacts in a concerted manner with cyclopentadiene to give a 1 : 1 [8 + 2]-type adduct; the cyclopentadiene reacts as a 2π-component, in contrast with the case of tropone and the reaction mechanism is confirmed by a study of its kinetic behaviour.
