Metal interferences in potentiometric stripping analysis

Abstract

The interferences caused by other metals in the determination of Zn, Ga, Cd, Tl, In, Pb, Cu and Bi by potentiometric stripping analysis were studied using solutions consisting of the analyte at a fixed concentration (0.50 µg ml–1) and the interferent at various concentrations within the range 0.1–40 µg ml–1. The above metals and also Ni, Co, Mn, Al, CrIII, Mg and Ca were studied as possible interferents. Four general classes of interfering action were observed, the most intense caused by the formation of intermetallic compounds.
